The History of Norel Farms
Originally, Norel Farms LLC was formed to deal with honey sales and the removal of pest honeybees from peoples properly. In the summer of 1991 Norman was mowing grass on our yard in Georgia. As he was mowing under a large tree he looked up and saw a small hive of bees underneath a large limb of the tree. He then told Rachel who grew up in Kansas taking care of beehives. The next day we bought bee keeping equipment and a few days later tried to catch the bees, but they all left. So, we ordered a package of bees and were in the bee business. In the next few years people started calling us if they saw a swarm of bees and over time our number of hives grew. Besides honey, we also pollinated fields and remove pest hives from people’s property.
We homeschooled our children until they reached high school and as the children got old enough to go off to high school Rachel decided to spend her time making breads, cakes, cookies and cinnamon rolls. She would bake all week, then go to the local farmer’s market and sell everything. After several years of this her clientele grew and we began to look for a store front to purchase so that she could go into the bakery business full-time. However, God had other plans and in the Summer of 2011 we moved to Kansas. Initially in Kansas Rachel sold in the Newton Farmer’s Market, but we quickly moved to Hillsboro, purchased a property on Main Street and had it remodeled into a bakery.
We finally opened Norel Farms Bakery on June 18, 2012.
The name: “Norel Farms” came from combining our two names, “Norman” and “Rachel”
We have now been open for over two years. We are open from 5:30 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday through Saturday. We make cinnamon rolls, donuts and gluten-free items every day. We also make breads, zwiebach, cookies and bierocks.
